Commonly cultivated in tropical areas, from whence it escapes into the watercourses. Will grow well on dryer, poor sites.
- Semi-deciduous small spreading tree to 10 meters
- Leaves are rounded, divided for 1/3 of their length into two lobes
- Deciduous in dry season
- Flowers attractive with, purple or pink petals
- Fruit a woody pod containing several rounded brown seeds
